What is Search Optimisation?

Search Engine optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is one of the most important factors to having a successful website. At Havealook we help small businesses across Australia improve their visibility online through practical and affordable SEO strategies.

What is the difference between Onsite SEO and Offsite SEO?

Onsite SEO is what you do on your website to help with your search engines rankings such the website copy, using the correct headings and page names, internal linking and making sure you website has fast load times. Onsite SEO is often called on-page SEO and are the same thing.

Offsite SEO is the work you do outside of your website to improve its ranking, such as earning backlinks from other reputable websites, social media marketing and online directories.

In this guide we will focus on onsite SEO because it forms the foundation of every well optimised website as without strong onsite SEO then offsite efforts like link building are not as effective.

If you want to dive deeper into offsite SEO, we recommend checking out our blog post: Why Backlinks Are Very Important to Your SEO Strategy.

At Havealook, we’ve helped thousands of Australian businesses get online and in our experience, the difference between a good website and a great one often comes down to one thing: the content.

This page is packed with practical advice, straightforward answers, and actionable tips. Whether you are writing your content yourself or wanting us to write the website copy for you here is what you need to know.

What is Onsite SEO?

Think of onsite SEO as making sure your website reads like an online news paper article, where you have the right headings and content, and has links through the articles to point you to other relevant news articles. However instead of using news articles in our example your website is the information, so make sure you format it like a news article so its easy to read. Onsite SEO is about making each page on your site easy for Google and your customers to understand. It covers things like:

  • Headings and page titles
  • Keyword use (words people are looking for)
  • Image names and alt text
  • Internal links on your website to other parts of your website

When it’s done well, your site ranks higher in search results and becomes easier to navigate. Onsite SEO is an essential part of any smart digital marketing strategy.

Why Is website content so important?

When someone lands on your site, they’re asking themselves three questions:

  • What does this business do?
  • Can I trust your business?
  • I am on your website, what do I do next?

Your content needs to answer all three—quickly and clearly. It’s your digital salesperson, your first impression, and your Google translator, all rolled into one.

Good content:

  • Helps people understand your services
  • Builds trust
  • Gets your site found on Google (thanks to strong SEO)
  • Encourages people to get in touch or make a purchase
